I've been running the first part of the Serpent's Skull adventure path and it's lead me to the conclusion that adventure paths are probably not for me. Don't get me wrong, its a beautiful adventure with so much sand-boxy deliciousness to offer. This is also certainly not a review of this adventure path, or adventure paths in general, so don't mistake this post for one either. The last thing I want to do is hurt anyone's product line or work. So this not to denigrate the work either.
No, I think the trouble is mostly on my end. It's a simple a shortness of time and lack of prep motivation. Adventure paths are too long for the amount of prep time I have. I also find myself not wanting to wade through a lot of text to get down to the nitty gritty nuts and bolts of each encounter. I also seem to have no useful memory of what I read two weeks ago and find myself wearing ruts in the trails my brain trying to re-re-re-read the path for a session. Its funny... I read a Goodman Games module over two months ago and still remember the essentials of the story behind the module.
Complicating matters was the fact that I've had a lot of player troubles for the last long while, which have finally been resolved. As a matter of fact, I have what some might consider a gamers dream group at the table! The players are all females, save for my eldest son. In my day, having one girl at the table would have been the envy of other GMs.
Anyway I fully intend to keep going with the path, but learn from my mistake and before you consider running a 'path, make sure you have all the time and gumption you need.

Wow. A table full of female gamers. Once in a while one or more of our wives will join us for a game but that's about it.
Serpent's skull is not the best AP. the first part was tons of fun, and the second is pretty good, but the third devolves into a kill x amount of critter y and the AP never really recovers which is a shame because I really wanted to like this one.
I never had the chance to run the D20 path called "Savage Tide" but I'd read the first three parts and thought it was really cool. The best thing about the girls too is their sheer enthusiasm. One of them hand wrote a 2-3 page background in a spiral notebook like it was just breathing.
